LEADERSHIP STANDARDS for all leaders at Crossroads:
Since it is the highest of all privileges to serve in the Lord’s church, the highest possible standards must be required and upheld. With that in mind, and in accordance with 1 Timothy 5:17 which charges the elders with “directing the affairs of the church,” and Hebrews 13:17, which says, “obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account,” the elders of Crossroads have determined the following as specific, essential requirements for any individual who would desire to serve in any leadership position here.
Leaders must:
- Have experienced a genuine salvation experience including baptism and possess a genuine, growing relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:23; 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 2:38)
- Commit yourself to a daily program of personal, spiritual development through regular, systematic Bible study and prayer. You must also accept responsibility for the spiritual growth and development of your family as well. (2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17; 1 Peter 2:2)
- Have completed all four classes in Discovering Crossroads.
(Proverbs 29:18; Ephesians 4:11-16)
- Commit yourself to the standards of personal holiness, godliness and righteousness as set forth in the Word of God. (2 Corinthians 7:1; 1 Peter 1:15- 16)
- Boldly and regularly share your faith with those who don’t know Christ.
(Matthew 28:18-20)
- Dedicate yourself to be a spiritual leader worthy of being followed and display a sterling, Christ-like example before the believers in our fellowship, our community and beyond at all times. (2 Timothy 2:2)
- Accept the responsibility for the love, care and shepherding of the people who are a part of this fellowship by doing everything within your power to meet their needs. (Colossians 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; 1 Peter 4:11)
- Accept the responsibility for the health, growth and maturity of the people of this fellowship and make every effort to maintain a spirit of love, harmony and unity within this body at all times. (Ephesians 4:3)
- Accept the role of a servant helping us accomplish the vision God has given our church, both in this community and in the world; being willing to make any sacrifice and pay any price to ensure the continued growth of the Kingdom of God. (Matthew 20:25-28)
- Accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God without error and be in complete agreement with the doctrine, structure, vision, and mission of Crossroads. This includes supporting the programs and ministries of this church through your own life and those of your family in every way. This includes being present for worship on Sundays and Wednesday nights, and being present for all church-wide events throughout the year. (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Acts 2:42- 47; 5:42)
- Be at least a tither in your giving to our local church, as a matter of record, and be willing to give generously beyond that to this ministry. (Matthew 6:19-21; 23:23; Malachi 3:8-12)
- Accept the responsibility for guarding and protecting this fellowship from anyone or anything that would bring dissension and/or division into it. This means no tolerance for gossip or negativity of any kind, from anyone: member, leader or even someone not affiliated with Crossroads. (Acts 20:28-30; Romans 16:17; 1 Corinthians 1:10, 12:25; Titus 3:10).
