25 Ways to Honor Your Wife
This list came from a Bible Message by Neal Jeffrey titled, 25 Ways to Honor Your Wife. Whether you have a great marriage or one that needs some work, I challenge you to make these a part of your role as a husband and then see what God does in your marriage.
A God-honoring husband:
- Includes his wife in envisioning the future.
- Accepts spiritual responsibility for his wife and family.
- Is willing to say, “I am sorry” and “forgive me.”
- Discusses household responsibilities with his wife and makes sure that they are fairly distributed.
- Seeks the consultation of his wife in everything and about everything.
- Follows through with commitments made to his wife.
- Anticipates the different stages his marriage will pass through.
- Must anticipate the different stages his kids will pass through and he changes with them.
- Frequently tells his wife what he likes about her.
- Provides for his family basic living expenses.
- Deals with distractions so that he can talk with his wife and kids.
- Prays with his wife and kids on a regular basis.
- Initiates meaningful family traditions.
- Initiates fun outings with his family on a regular basis.
- Takes time to give his children practical instruction about life, which in turn, gives them confidence with their peers.
- Manages the schedule and deals with distractions.
- Keeps his family financially sound and out of harmful debt.
- Has drawn up a will and knows what will happen to his kids and his family in case of death.
- Lets his wife and children into the interior of his life.
- Honors his wife often in public.
- Explains sex to each of his children in a way that gives them a wholesome perspective.
- Sits down with his wife and encourages her to grow as an individual.
- Takes the lead in establishing with his wife sound, biblical family values.
- Joins a small group of men who are dedicated to improving their skills as a man, husband, and father.
- Allows time for his wife to pursue her own private interests.
Personal Growth
Practical Steps to Grow Closer to God
- Have a set time and place to read and pray every day.
(This includes a time to be still and listen)
- Memorize Scripture.
- Surround yourself with other growing Christians.
- Commit to go to church on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Lead your family in Bible reading and study.
- Pray with your spouse.
- Be accountable to another man.
- Be apart of a life group on Sundays, Wednesdays, or during the week.
